Deployed within an operator's core network, UMA Network Controllers (UNCs) terminate connections from millions of UMA-enabled client devices over IP access networks, including the Internet. UNCs perform three basic functions; terminate IPSec tunnels from devices; interwork mobile circuit services (voice, SMS) from IP into the MSC; and interwork mobile packet services (WAP, MMS, PoC, video, music,...) from IP into the GSN.
